Burning Restriction Lifted

As of 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 the burning restrictions prohibiting open burning in Bath Township are rescinded and normal permitted burning is allowed.

The Bath Township Fire Department has taken this action because of recent rainfall, predicted rainfall, and fuel moistures returning to normal levels. Upon surveying conditions on July 25 and 26 and in consultation with our local and State partners we believe burning within normal permitted areas will no longer pose an above normal threat of rapid fire spread in case of an accident. If conditions change, the restrictions may be reinstated. Please see the Townships website for the most accurate and up to date information.

As of 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, persons holding valid permits may resume normal outdoor brush and recreational burning within the limitations of their permit. Everyone is reminded that overall this has been an exceptionally dry fire season and that every safety precaution must be taken to avoid fire spread. This includes; only burning within the restrictions set forth in the township burning ordinance, never leaving a fire unattended, only burning permitted materials, having water and firefighting tools on hand, and calling 911 if there is any problem with the fire.

Outdoor burning while having value as a recreational and brush disposal activity must be in accordance with accepted practices and not negatively impact the safety, comfort or health of another person.
As a reminder, nothing may be ignited or burned other than items specified in the ordinance. Prohibited items include things such as; construction materials, lumber, trash, tires, and anything else not specifically permitted. Also remember to use courteous behavior and not burn smoldering fires, smoky fires that offend neighbors or green wood that tends to smolder and give off an increased amount of smoke.

If any fire is deemed to be unacceptable, by ordinance the Fire or Police Department may require you to extinguish the fire and may seek fines or other punishments in accordance with State law and local ordinance

Please use fire wisely and call the fire department at 641-7811 with any questions. We appreciate everyone’s compliance and support during the fire restrictions.
